Pain Clinic Naming and Art Competition Rules and Judging Criteria

Competition Rules

  1. The closing date for entries is 3 November 2024 at 11:59 p.m., and the winner(s) will be contacted as soon as possible after that date. Entries received after the closing date and time will not be included.
  2. The Competition is open to children ages 7 to 11 (Years 3,4,5 and 6) at the closing date. We reserve the right to ask for proof of age of entrants to the Competition
  3. Entries for the Pain Clinic Name and six Treatment Room Names must be submitted via the competition Entry Form by post or email.
  4. Artwork must be an A4-sized drawing or painting submitted with the Entry Form by post to Pain Clinic Competition, The League of Friends, Teddington Memorial Hospital, Hampton Road, Teddington, Middlesex, TW11 0JL, or scanned and sent by email to comms@friends-tmh.co.uk.
  5. Artwork submitted cannot be returned.
  6. All email and postal entries must include the entrants’ name, age, and school name via the Entry Form.
  7. All email and postal entries must include the parent/legal guardian’s name, relationship to the child, email address, telephone number and signed consent via the Entry Form.
  8. If the entry is submitted through the school, an appropriate School Representative must provide consent for the school to be included in publicity material via the Entry Form.
  9. Members of the immediate family of the trustees and employees of The Friends of Teddington Memorial Hospital are not eligible to enter.
  10. Entrants should reside or attend school within the LBRuT area, aged 7 to 11 years at the competition’s closing date.
  11. Only one entry per person is permitted.
  12. Entries that do not provide contact details and appropriate permission from a parent or legal guardian will not be considered.
  13. Judges reserve the right not to select any of the submitted entries.
  14. The decision of the judges is final.
  15. By entering the competition, the entrant and their parent/legal guardian/teacher/school representative agree to have photographs/video, their name, age, school and/or commentary published for publicity purposes.
  16. No responsibility can be accepted for entries that are lost, delayed, or not received for any reason, including technical difficulties. Proof of delivery of an entry is not proof of receipt.
  17. Incorrectly completed entries will be disqualified.
  18. The League of Friends of Teddington Memorial Hospital is running this Competition.
  19.  Any personal data submitted by the entrant will be used solely in accordance with current UK GDPR data protection legislation and the League of Friends privacy policy.
  20. The League of Friends of Teddington Memorial Hospital reserves the right to amend these rules at any time.

  22. Submitting an entry to the Competition is confirmation of acceptance of these terms and conditions.
  23. All artwork submitted can be used by the League of Friends for promotional purposes.
  24. The League of Friends reserves the right at any time and from time to time to modify or discontinue, temporarily or permanently, this Competition with or without prior notice due to reasons outside its control (including, without limitation, in the case of anticipated, suspected or actual fraud). The decision of the League of Friends in all matters under its control is final and binding.
  25. The League of Friends shall not be liable for any failure to comply with its obligations where the failure is caused by something outside its reasonable control. Such circumstances shall include, but not be limited to, weather conditions, fire, flood, hurricane, strike, industrial dispute, war, hostilities, political unrest, riots, civil commotion, accidents, supervening legislation or any other circumstances amounting to force majeure.

Criteria for Judging

  • Relevance to the Clinic’s Purpose and Values: The names and art should reflect the purpose and values of the Pain Clinic, TMH and HRCH, alluding to the commitment to patient care, pain management, and overall well-being and quality of life.
  • Appropriateness: The chosen names and art should be appropriate and encourage confidence in the services provided by the Pain Clinic. It should be suitable for a healthcare facility of this type.
  • Accessibility and Inclusivity: The names and art should be easily understandable and inclusive, considering the diverse backgrounds of our community and avoid overly complex or exclusive terms.
  • Positive Connotations: The names and art should evoke positive emotions and associations. They should not have negative connotations that might discourage potential patients or create misconceptions.
  • Memorability: Good names should be memorable and easy to recall. They should stick in the minds of our community members, making it more likely that they will remember and use the clinic’s name.
  • Unique: The chosen names should be distinctive and not easily confused with other healthcare facilities or services in the area. This helps in building a unique identity for the Pain Clinic.
  • Local Relevance: Names and art that are local relevance, perhaps incorporating the community’s name, landmarks, or cultural elements that are significant to the area.
  • Symbolism and Meaning: Names and art that may carry symbolic meaning or significance related to pain relief, quality of life, well-being, or the broader purpose of the Pain Clinic.
  • Inspirational and Empathetic: The name should convey a sense of empathy and inspiration, signalling that the Pain Clinic understands and cares about the challenges patients face with chronic pain.
  • Scalability and Timelessness: The chosen name will remain relevant as the clinic potentially grows or expands its services. A name that is not overly trendy and will stand the test of time, avoiding potential obsolescence.
  • Approval and Legal Considerations: The proposed names and art comply with any legal requirements and be easily approved for use, excluding trademarks or existing entities with similar names or images.
