Support the Pain Clinic, help reclaim patients’ quality of life

What is the Pain Clinic?

Please support the new Pain Clinic at Teddington Memorial Hospital.

Pain is a universal human experience that, when chronic or intense, can significantly diminish a person’s quality of life.

Recognising the need to improve access and integrate specific services for specialised care in our community, our local NHS Community Trust, HRCH, plans to establish a state-of-the-art Pain Clinic at Teddington Health & Social Care Centre at Teddington Memorial Hospital.

This initiative will help alleviate suffering and enhance the well-being and comfort of countless individuals in our community.

Our Pledge to Patient Experience

At the heart of the Pain Clinic project lies the patient experience. The Friends of Teddington Memorial Hospital is committed to supporting patient improvements beyond medical excellence provided as standard by our local NHS.

In partnership with HRCH and our community, we aim to create an environment where patients feel understood, valued, and supported throughout their treatment journey. We are launching a targeted fundraising campaign to enhance patient experience within the Pain Clinic to achieve this vision.

The Friends of Teddington Memorial Hospital has pledged to support this £1 million+ Pain Clinic project with a £150,000 contribution over the next two years for patient experience elements, funded partly by our ’70 for 70’ campaign in 2024.

The Need for a Pain Clinic

Limited facilities

The excellent Chronic Pain Management Service at Kingston Hospital offers a range of medical and non-medical interventions for people with chronic pain. However, the dedicated team has limited facilities and options for expansion, forcing some patients to endure unnecessary and prolonged suffering.

Increasing Demand

As our population ages and the prevalence of chronic diseases rises, the demand for specialised pain care is surging. Improved access to specific services in our community is urgently needed.

Economic and Emotional Impact

Unmanaged pain can lead to decreased quality of life, increased healthcare costs, and a strain on families and caregivers.

The Solution

HRCH aims to provide comprehensive care from diagnosis to treatment and rehabilitation by supplying a new Pain Clinic at Teddington. The Pain Clinic will offer a holistic approach to pain management.

Benefits to our Community of the Pain Clinic at Teddington

Accessible Care

A local Pain Clinic provides services closer to home, which means reduced travel times and easier access for patients, especially the elderly and those with mobility challenges.

Existing office space is converted into space directly benefiting patients, and other clinics can use the versatile space.

Multidisciplinary Approach

The HRCH team of specialists and support staff collaborate to tailor individual treatment plans, incorporating consultant anaesthetists, clinical psychologists, physiotherapists, specialist pain nurses, counselling, and alternative therapies such as an acupuncturist and an Alexander technique teacher as needed.

Patient and Community Wellbeing

By effectively addressing pain, we can enhance the overall health and vitality of patients and our community, fostering a more resilient and thriving population.

The Importance of Patient Experience at The Pain Clinic

Holistic Healing

A positive patient experience contributes significantly to the overall well-being and recovery process.

One-stop patient-centred care

A patient-centric approach enhances patient care and communication. It helps empower patients with knowledge about their condition and treatment options to address the emotional and psychological aspects of pain management. The hospital’s reputation is enhanced, attracting top talent, and fostering community trust.

One-stop clinic service provision reduces multiple attendances, saving patients time and hassle and effectively focusing clinic resources.
