WHAT WE DO

  • The League’s Volunteers Supporting the Nursing Teams at Teddington Memorial Hospital

The League of Friends received a request from Hounslow and Richmond Community Healthcare NHS Trust, the Trust who manage Teddington Memorial Hospital, enquiring if our team of volunteers would be able to make headbands for the staff to wear, as they have been getting sore ears from the elastic on their face masks. Each headband has a button on either side where the elastic from the mask can be hooked around, which helps prevent sore ears. The League put out an appeal to our team and were thrilled with the response received. Our volunteers and their friends and family have…

  • APRIL’S VOLUNTEER OF THE MONTH

Eve joined The League of Friends about 25-30 years ago and started helping in The League’s shop, then with her husband, took over the running of it on a voluntary basis for many years until it became too much and a paid Manager was employed. During this time Eve was also helping to organise the Jumble Sales and Fetes in the garden, which use to take place before the extension at the back of the hospital was built. Eve also used to volunteer with the book sales in the main reception area on Saturdays, helped run a hospital car service,…

  • Corona Virus COVID-19 Update

A message from the Trustees As part of its ongoing engagement and communication with Members and the wider community, the League of Friends has events and meetings planned during 2020. In the context of the current Government advice relating to corona virus to avoid unnecessary social interactions, we have decided to postpone all such events for the time being. This includes our regular Coffee Mornings, AGM and Summer Fair event. Clearly the situation is very dynamic, and we will keep our plans under review, based on official Government advice. During the coming weeks we will continue our support for Teddington…

The League would like to thank Waitrose in Hampton for their generous donation of £170.00, which was raised from their Community Matters Scheme. It is an amazing amount and we were thrilled to be selected as one of Waitrose chosen charities and to receive such support from their store and the local community was wonderful. The League has raised over £8 million to date and has funded many enhancements to the hospital and its equipment since our inception in 1954 and we continue to do so. • The League’s recent Coffee Morning was a great success.

The League’s recent Coffee Morning with our Chairman, Simon Douglas Lane at Teddington Methodist Church on Saturday 15th February was a great success. Many League and Church members attended, along with participants from three classes being held in the Church that morning. We enjoyed tea, fresh coffee and some lovely cakes made by supporters, all being sold in aid of The League. We were able to speak to a lot of the attendees about our history and the currents projects which we are funding at Teddington Memorial Hospital. The refurbishment of the Urgent Treatment Centre, a new trial of Patient…

  • Volunteer of the Month – March

Kevin Carter has been volunteering in The League’s shop in Teddington Memorial Hospital for over five years now – in fact ever since he retired – working under three managers and within both the original and the current premises. Almost all of his working life was spent in international sales, the first half in the construction equipment and printing industries and then in international development, so retailing is something very different. Much as he enjoyed his career years, especially the travelling to exotic places, Kevin says he would hate to go back to paid employment – retirement and the freedom it brings is so much better.…

The League was delighted to receive the donation of £338.36, from The Rotary Club of Teddington and The Hamptons, at a recent cheque presentation held at the hospital.
