We are thrilled to share the exciting news that Munira Wilson, MP for Twickenham, officially opened the newly revamped paediatric waiting area and garden at Teddington Memorial Hospital on 15 November 2024.
At the celebration, Munira Wilson unveiled a painting by a local artist, Karen Iredale Lucas, commissioned by Mr Lord Tomlin, a Teddington patient and regular hospital supporter.
This milestone, which was made possible through our community’s generosity, marks a significant step in improving the experience of our youngest patients and their families.
A Community Effort
This transformation would not have been possible without funding from The League of Friends, The Teddington Society, and The Lensbury.
Together, these groups contributed £11,000 to create a bright, welcoming, and child-friendly environment.
The children’s waiting area has also been equipped with an interactive play projector funded by Kingston Hospital Charity through their Innovation Fund.
The garden refurbishment was carried out thanks to the local landscape gardening firm Enable.
The support from these organisations demonstrates the powerful impact of coming together for a common purpose.
Creating a Space with Children in Mind
For many children, visiting a hospital can be an intimidating experience. The revamped paediatric area was thoughtfully designed to alleviate that fear, providing a warm, supportive environment that fosters a sense of safety and comfort.
We hope this new space offers more than just distraction for children—it is intended to provide a reassuring experience for the young patients and their families.
Gratitude for the Community’s Support
We extend our deepest thanks to The Teddington Society and The Lensbury for their invaluable contributions, both financially and through community-driven fundraising events.
Special thanks to the hospital staff and designers who brought the vision to life. Their hard work and creativity have created an environment that will leave a lasting, positive impression on every child and family.
The League of Friends: Making a Difference
For 70 years, the League of Friends has been committed to enhancing patient experiences at Teddington Memorial Hospital.
This project is just one example of how we work to support the hospital’s essential services, making a real difference in the lives of patients, from the youngest to the eldest.
Every donation, hour of volunteering, and fundraising event makes projects like this possible.
Thank you to everyone who contributed to the revamped paediatric waiting area project.
