The League is delighted to announce the Woodland Suite shortlisted for award.
We’re celebrating the news that the Woodland Suite Pain Clinic has been shortlisted in the Fit Out Project of the Year – Healthcare category at the prestigious Fit Out Awards.
The nomination recognises the exceptional work undertaken by Studio4 Architecture, who transformed an outdated office space within Teddington Memorial Hospital into a welcoming outpatient pain clinic designed to improve the experience of patients receiving specialist pain relief care.
Investing in Better Care
The Woodland Suite represents a significant investment in the future of healthcare at Teddington Memorial Hospital. The League of Friends contributed approximately £200,000 towards the fit out of the new pain clinic, helping to create a modern, calming environment that supports both patients and healthcare professionals.
Research consistently shows that thoughtfully designed healthcare environments can reduce anxiety and improve patient wellbeing. The Woodland Suite embraces this philosophy through its nature-inspired interiors, carefully selected furnishings, graphics and finishes, creating a space that feels welcoming from the moment patients arrive.
A Community Project from the Beginning
One of the most distinctive features of the project is its name.
The League of Friends organised an art and naming competition for local schoolchildren, inviting young people from the community to help shape the identity of the new clinic. Their creativity inspired the name The Woodland Suite, reflecting the calming natural themes incorporated throughout the design.
This involvement ensured the project was not only built for the local community but also created with the community, giving local children the opportunity to leave a lasting legacy within their hospital.
Congratulations to Everyone Involved
Being shortlisted for a national award is a wonderful achievement and recognises the collaborative effort between Studio4 Architecture, healthcare staff, contractors and everyone who contributed to delivering the project.
The League of Friends is incredibly proud to have supported the creation of a facility that combines innovative design with compassionate healthcare. The Woodland Suite demonstrates how charitable funding can make a tangible difference by enhancing NHS facilities and improving the experience of patients for years to come.
We extend our congratulations to Studio4 Architecture and everyone involved in bringing the Woodland Suite to life. We wish them every success at the Fit Out Awards and are honoured to have played a part in this nationally recognised project.
As the League of Friends continues to invest in projects that improve healthcare across Teddington Memorial Hospital and he local community, the Woodland Suite stands as an inspiring example of what can be achieved when charities, healthcare professionals, designers and the local community work together with a shared vision.
