NPL Choir Brings Joy to Teddington Memorial Hospital

On Friday 17 July, the halls of Teddington Memorial Hospital were filled with music, warmth and smiles as the National Physical Laboratory (NPL) Choir, based in Teddington, gave a special concert for patients and staff.

The performance in partnership with NPL, was organised by the League of Friends of Teddington Memorial Hospital, whose dedicated volunteers and trustees were also there to enjoy the occasion alongside everyone else.

Music brightens day for patients and staff

The concert was a wonderful example of how music can bring people together and brighten even the most ordinary of days. The NPL Choir performed a varied and uplifting programme. The singers delivered each song with enthusiasm, professionalism and genuine enjoyment. Their passion for music was evident throughout the performance and quickly spread to everyone listening.

Moments of connection

For many patients, the concert provided a welcome change from their daily routine. Music has a remarkable ability to lift spirits, evoke happy memories and create moments of connection, and this performance achieved exactly that.

Many commented afterwards on how much they had enjoyed the event and how grateful they were for the opportunity to experience live music within the hospital.

Enjoyed by hospital staff

The hospital staff also appreciated the concert. Their work is often demanding and fast-paced, and the performance offered a brief opportunity to pause and enjoy a shared moment of relaxation and celebration.

It was heartening to see staff, patients, volunteers and trustees all brought together by the music.

Committmnent to local community

The League of Friends works tirelessly to enhance the experience of patients and support the hospital in many different ways, and this concert was another excellent example of our commitment to the local community.

The presence of the League’s volunteers and trustees reflects the commitment we take in creating opportunities that improve wellbeing and strengthen community connections.

NPL community spirit

The National Physical Laboratory (NPL) Choir should also be warmly congratulated for giving their time and talents so generously. Their performance demonstrated not only musical excellence but also a strong sense of community spirit and kindness. By sharing their voices, they brought comfort, enjoyment and companionship to everyone present.

More than medical treatment

Events such as this remind us that healthcare is about more than medical treatment alone. Acts of generosity, creativity and community involvement can make a real difference to people’s wellbeing.

On behalf of everyone at Teddington Memorial Hospital and the League of Friends, we extend our sincere thanks to the NPL Choir for a truly uplifting afternoon. We look forward to welcoming them back for another performance in the future.
